Hahndorf Exhibits Dramatic Contrast for SALA

Sunday, July 28, 2019

The Hahndorf Academy is a magical place where visual arts and heritage meet. This dramatic contrast also shows in the gallery’s exhibitions during SALA 2019

Each year The South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival program showcases over 8000 artists participating in almost 700 exhibitions and events across Adelaide and regional SA.

Celebrating its 22nd year, SALA will run throughout the month of August 1 – 31 and our Hahndorf Academy will be showing two fascinating exhibitions.

Throughout August SALA exhibitions will appear in local neighbourhoods, along with local galleries, cafés, wineries, shops, offices, libraries, surgeries, pubs, schools, retirement villages, breweries, bakeries, and at a number of art institutes.

Bursting with colour SALA provides a platform for artists working in their chosen medium to exhibit their work and be part of a large scale festival, with inclusivity and community at its heart. From painting to sculpture, video to performance, photography, street art and much more SALA celebrates creativity and the art and artists of South Australia.

Situated in the centre of the picturesque village of Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills, the Hahndorf Academy is a magical place where visual arts and heritage meet.

There is an everchanging panorama of contemporary visual art to discover in the gallery, then step back and enjoy a change of pace with their special collection of Sir Hans Heysen’s whimsical drawings of village life from times gone by.

This dramatic contrast also shows in the gallery’s exhibitions during SALA 2019.

James Dodd
Installation, Painting

James Dodd has a practice that meanders across a range of different outcomes. He has a curiosity for machines, tinkering, backyard adaptation and the way in which these things might be incorporated into a visual arts practice. This exhibition includes a selection of recent paintings created as part of Dodd's Painting Mill project alongside a number of contraptions that are part sculpture, part tool and part performance prop.

James Dodd will be offering a kids workshop during the period of the exhibition.
