The picturesque Adelaide Hills village offers a whole bunch of experiences, activities and attractions for kids, parents and grandparents alike.

From cuddling cute animals and exploring fairy gardens to mini golf, candle making and Saddle Club – Hahndorf really has something for just about everyone.

Hahndorf is just a 20-minute drive up the freeway, making it the perfect day trip destination or family vacation.

To make it easier to plan your school holidays, we’ve put together a guide to some of the most popular activities in Hahndorf that even the grown-ups might enjoy:



282 Mount Barker Road Hahndorf

There is so much on offer at the Hahndorf Farm Barn that it’s hard to know where to start! From pony rides and tractor tours, to feeding the range of super cute animals, it’s easy to see why people come back to the Farm Barn time and time again. Children can cuddle, pat and feed cows, sheep, kangaroos, deer, donkeys, ponies, rabbits and birds and the list goes on! The Farm Barn features in every school holiday activity guide because it truly is one of the best family activities in Adelaide.

Opening hours: 10am-4pm, seven days a week. The Farm Barn is open almost every day of the year (including public holidays) except the 24th-26th December.

Price guide: Adults $16, Children $13, Concession/Seniors $14, Family passes from $45. Open all year, including public holidays (excluding 24-26 December).


32 Mount Barker Road Hahndorf

A brand new cat cafe in Hahndorf. Come and enjoy some time with the resident felines, they are inquisitive and always playful! 

Opening hours: 10am-5pm seven days a week. 11am-5pm over Easter long weekend. 

Price guide: Adults $12, Children & Concession $10 and includes a coffee or hot drink.


3/44 Main Street Hahndorf

When we say Hive Door, we mean it. We literally they a hive inside the shop with 1000s of live bees. Inside the observation hive, the bees are busy at work and you can safely view them without having to put on a bee suit. They offer free honey tastings of the entire Buzz range. Pop in and let them take you through the different flavours of each honey and see how each floral source provides a unique difference to each honey. 

Opening hours: 10am-5pm, seven days a week. 



Rear 55 Main Street Hahndorf

Be enchanted by the miniature magical wonderland of the Fairy Garden Hahndorf. Follow the signs along the garden path from Herbee’s Garden Café – and don’t forget to ring the bell to let the fairies know you’re there! This delightful fairy garden is filled with fairies, gnomes and smurfs, and even a ‘wish-you-well’. The Fairy Garden also stocks everything you need to create your own fairy garden, including doors, houses, fairies and, of course, fairy dust. Stay a little longer for a coffee and babycino in the pretty little courtyard at Herbee’s Garden Café.

Hahndorf Mini Golf


17 Main Street Hahndorf

Hahndorf Mini Golf is a putt putt golf course on the main street of Hahndorf featuring 18 holes with fun and challenging obstacles to put your skills to the test! Mini golf is an exciting and social activity for all ages - and at only $6 per game is also a very affordable activity.

Opening hours: Open 7 days a week, 10.30am-4.30pm (weather permitting). Open all year except Christmas Day

Price guide: Adults/$8, Kids/$6. Bookings required for groups of more than 20 people

Udder Delights offers something for everyone – even cheese-loving children! Snacks and meals are available, with a menu that includes cheese boards (naturally), high tea, cheese fondue and a kids' basket with warm baguette, cheese, Vegemite, dried fruit and a gingerbread man! The raised outdoor dining area overlooking the main street is a lovely spot for the family to enjoy a meal or tasting while overlooking the bustling main street of Hahndorf.

Opening hours: October to April: Open 7 days; 9am to 5pm. May to September: Monday to Thursday 9am to 4pm, Friday to Sunday 9am to 5pm. Closed Good Friday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Price guide: Free daily cheese tasting between 10am and 4pm, There’s an all-day menu or the kids' cheeseboard is $9.90


Hahndorf Sweet Tooth


Hahndorf is the destination for sweet tooths of all ages. From traditional lolly shops like Hahndorf Sweets and Humbugs, to the Fudge Shop, Ye Olde Icecreamery, cake and chocolate shops, Hahndorf is the next best thing to Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory! Explore Hahndorf’s delicious range of sweet stores and taste original, traditional and modern sweets that will have you reminiscing over favourites from your past or enjoying sweet new delights with your children. The best way to discover all of these sweet stores is to follow your nose (or sweet tooth) along the Main Street.



171 River Road Hahndorf

The Megan Jones School Holiday Program offers young riders the chance to learn and participate in an array of horsemanship activities, from grooming and tacking their pony to learning about stable maintenance, floating and all things in between.

And while the children are in horse riding lessons, we recommend you venture off to explore Hahndorf’s wineries, restaurants and shopping outlets!

The riding school also offers a shorter, two-hour Saddle Club on weekends, offering riding and horse management education for $80.

Opening hours: Saddle Club runs 9am to 4pm Mon-Fri during school holidays.

Price guide: School holiday program $160 per day. $50 deposit required. Children to bring a packed lunch and water bottle.



Main Street Hahndorf

The Alec Johnston park on the Main Street of Hahndorf is well-located, halfway along the street and just down from the Fairy Garden. It has a lovely, spacious grassed picnic area, toilets, a playground and even a small creek running through it to add to the ambience. A BBQ and tables are also available. It’s a lovely spot to have a rest after a big day exploring, eating and shopping your way through Hahndorf.



2106 Mt Barker Road, Hahndorf

Since 1975, families have visited the Beerenberg Farm’s Strawberry Patch on a mission to gather fresh strawberries you can’t find anywhere else. The great family activity is fun and educational as it connects children to South Australian food producers. When you visit, capture the moment with #PickMeBeerenberg for a chance to win some of the local business’s best products. As the strawberry patch closes at the end of April, make sure to check their websites for daily updates. 

Opening Hours: Farm Shop open 7 days a week; 9am to 5pm, strawberry patch open daily; 9am to 4.15pm (season runs November to April). Excludes Christmas Day and out of season.

A family holiday is well spent at the spacious and picturesque Hahndorf Resort Tourist Park. Recently refurbished, the park has plenty of accommodation options to suit all family sizes, and commands sweeping views over the Hills. For the kids, there’s giant jumping pillows, mini golf, outdoor games, a playground, swimming pool, volleyball, a giant chess board, and even a lending library. Relax in the quiet park and feed the ducks, or cook up a barbecue with friends.



Hahndorf is home to some wonderful gem and collectable stores for the most avid little stone collectors. Encourage the kids to save up their hard-earned pocket money for the perfect stone for their collection. CANDLE MAKING, The 3 Wishes Candle Barn

Head on into The 3 Wishes Candle Barn for delicious-smelling, eco-friendly candles made with all natural/organic ingredients. The best part – you can even make your own candle!! A great way for children to learn the art of candle making and blending different scents – and you get to keep your candle.

Opening hours: 10am-5pm Mon-Fri; 9.30am-5.30pm Sat/Sun and Public Holidays.

Price guide: $12 to make your own candle (and you get to keep it!).
