Pioneer Memorial Park on Hahndorf’s Main Street has been open since 1939 and is a delightful location for a family picnic. The quiet park has a large, open grass area, a new playground, a rotunda and easily accessible toilets, perfect for a relaxing afternoon. If you’ve had enough of the sun, sit under the rotunda and let the breeze cool you down in the shaded area. Head over to Udder Delights just down the road beforehand to finalise the essentials for an amazing cheese board. Pioneer Memorial Park is easily accessible and an easy place to set up a lovely family picnic.

The Hahndorf Farm Barn is the perfect location for a picnic break in between a day of family fun. When everyone needs a break from feeding the adorable farm animals, you can set up lunch at one of the sheltered table areas. You can even hire a barbeque for only $5 and cook up a feast. While you’re on your way, stop in at Beerenberg Farm and pick some vibrant strawberries to add to your plates.

The scenic Alec Johnston Park has all the basic requirements for a great picnic. The park has a large grassed area, a playground, toilets, water fountain splash pool, a barbeque and tables making it a perfect area to have a break and keep the kids entertained on your day in Hahndorf. Stop in at Humbugs of Hahndorf or Hahndorf Sweets up the road beforehand to reward the kids with some sweet treats for dessert.

The Hahndorf Academy is one of South Australia’s largest regional art galleries and with the beautiful surroundings is a fantastic picnic spot for anybody with a keen eye for the arts. After witnessing one of the Academy’s incredible visual arts exhibitions inside the heritage building, allow yourself to relax in the sun and soak up the area’s serenity over a delicious picnic. If you want to take your picnic to the next level, stop in at Harris Smokehouse beforehand and pick up some of South Australia’s best quality cured seafood.

The Cedars is an amazing 60-acre heritage property with the ideal spots for a romantic picnic. The beautiful gardens are a delight to explore all year round and change with the seasons to give visitors a slightly different experience each time. While exploring you’ll come across many exotic plant species including the Himalayan cedar trees that give the property its name. On your way to the Cedars, stop in at The German Pantry to pick up some local, authentic smallgoods to add to your picnic. It’s recommended that you allow at least two hours for your visit to The Cedars, but we suggest bringing your picnic gear and making a day out of it.
