HOW TO GET TO HAHNDORF

Hahndorf is located in the picturesque Adelaide Hills 28km south-east of Adelaide, the capital of South Australia. Making your way to Hahndorf is an easy 30-minute drive up the South Eastern Freeway by car, public transport, taxi, Uber, chauffeur car or sight-seeing tour. Its proximity to Adelaide makes Hahndorf the perfect day trip or weekend getaway.

By car

Hahndorf is a 30-minute drive from Adelaide via the South Eastern Freeway. From Adelaide, make your way to the Freeway and follow the signs to Hahndorf. Car parking is available along the main street of Hahndorf, but we recommend using the free carparking facilities at the far end of the street leaving you free to explore the village at your own pace. Car hire is available from the Adelaide CBD or the airport through BudgetHertzThrifty or Avis.

By public transport (bus)

A daily bus service travels from Adelaide to Hahndorf at regular times. The Adelaide Metro 864 bus route begins at Currie Street in the Adelaide CBD and makes stops along Glen Osmond Road for travellers boarding outside of the CBD. Adelaide Metro bus tickets can be purchased at participating major city and suburban newsagents (or in Hahndorf from the IGA supermarket). By taxi

Hahndorf’s close proximity to Adelaide means taxis are a viable transport option for those who prefer it to driving or public transport. A taxi from Adelaide CBD to Hahndorf will cost approximately $70AU one way. City-based taxis will take you up the hill or you can book the local taxi service – Des’s CabsMount Barker Taxis on (08) 8391 1888. We advise you book ahead for evening travel.

Driving from Melbourne

Hahndorf is ideally located just off the South Eastern Freeway which links Melbourne to Adelaide, making it the perfect place for people driving from interstate to stop and stretch the legs, have a coffee or a bite to eat and explore the village. Getting to Hahndorf is easy – take the second Mount Barker exit (30 minutes from Murray Bridge), turn right to cross back over the freeway again and left at the big Bunnings roundabout. Follow the road for about 5 minutes and you’ll find yourself in Hahndorf (we recommend you take it nice and slow, it’s a winding road).
