What’s an Irish place doing in a German town?
That’s one of the first things you’ll ask yourself as you walk through the Plough’s doors into its cosy interior.
Located in the middle of Hahndorf at 2/42 Mount Barker Rd (next to the Haus), the Plough is absolutely brimming with character. Irish flags, Gaelic Footballs, pictures of famous Irish celebrities & other Irish memorabilia adorn the walls, an endearing sight to anyone, Irish or no.
Owned by Alan & Patricia Starkey, the Plough has become a favourite for locals and visitors alike, renowned for its baked goods (made fresh every day), stunning coffee (or Irish coffee, if you’re feeling cheeky) and fantastic service – Alan and Patricia are always up for a chat.
But the food & coffee aren’t all that entices wanderers to this Irish gem, of course some visit for the Guinness on tap – fittingly, the Plough is the only place in Hahndorf you can get a pint of the black stuff!
Open from 8-3 everyday (save Tuesdays), the charming cafe/bar also often plays host to dinners & traditional Irish music, which are certainly nights to remember!
The Plough is a lesser-known, must-visit destination for those coming to the picturesque German Village of Hahndorf.
